Dry Cast Stone

Plean Dry Cast Stone has a surface finish so closely resembling that of natural stone as to present difficulty in distinguishing between the two. In general, dry cast units need no surface treatment after de-moulding other than minimal hand-dressing.

Textured finishes may be achieved by working the surface in several ways immediately after de-moulding. Colour and texture of stones are matched using crushed rock fines and/or sands usually mixed with white cement. Wherever possible colours are matched without the use of pigments. Aggregate selection is critical, in terms of colour, particle shape, correctness and consistency of grading. Supplies of high quality low shrinkage aggregates are readily available locally.

Facing mix designs developed through intensive research, coupled with computer aided batching facilities incorporating precise moisture controllers, ensure consistency throughout the range of blends which permits thorough compaction and yields strong, dense, durable products.

Without a first class mould, it is not possible to produce a first quality product. Mould making calls for personnel, equipment and a working environment of the highest order. Moulds of timber, fibre-glass and rubber are manufactured in our own mould-shop. Moulded or ornamental work pose no problems, the most intricate and delicate work being possible using modern materials and techniques.

Dry cast units are normally cast face down, in two part construction, the facing mix hammer-compacted to a minimum 20mm thickness, the backing mix immediately hammer-compacted ensuring thorough compaction and complete interdiffusion of facing and backing mixes. The earth moist zero slump mix allows continuous casting from one mould with resultant benefits in speed of production and flexibility of programming.
